Forgiveness??

I have often wondered exactly what forgiveness is. I know, I know, forgiveness is taught in Sunday School at a very young age, but I am talking about the "grown-up" explanation of forgiveness. Well.....I just figured it out. Forgiveness, has been taught to us as though our sins are "washed away" by the Blood, but I was very rarely taught exactly what that means. When Jesus died on the Cross he did not only die physically, He also "became" the sins that have been committed as well as the sins that are going to be committed, much like the scapegoat that the Israelite people sent out into the desert carried all the sins of the past year out of the city. At the point of death Christ "became", or carried, all the sins, not of the past year...not even just the sin of the Christians, He became the sin that the entire world had committed, and would commit from the beginning of time until the end of this world. He paid, once and for all, the price of our...

Which Christ?

With in the pages of this book I was given there is an illustration of a married couple(Stan and Diane) who have accepted Christ. Diane displayed a total change in thought and lifestyle, Stan on the other hand continued on in his old lifestyle. The author of the book, at one time, lived just down the street from this couple and Diane called him to come over and talk to Stan, who was in yet another of his drunken stupors. This is not the first time the author has been in this situation, and he has, at this point, run out of things to say to try to help this man break out of his alcohol prison. On the way over the author, desperate to help this man, prays and asks for guidance on what to say. When the author gets to the house Diane lets him in, they sit down with Stan and begin the same conversation they have had many times before. During the course of the conversation the author, out of the blue, asks a question that he has never asked before. And I'll tell you this question in a m...

In Retrospect

At some time in my life Christ was real to me, as real as the couch in my den. Now I sit after moving back to and spending time in the town I grew up in, back to dealing with the family I grew up with and all the questions that come with it, questioning where I have placed my faith in general. In retrospect, I find that I have lived with this question longer than I thought and have been in denial for a large part of it. I had a discussion with a person, with whom I hope to build more of a relationship, today about faith and what its role in life is. And more importantly how and on what our faith is built. During this discussion the point was made to me that the amount of faith I have is, while not irrelevant, not all that important. The importance of faith is not the faith in and of itself, the importance of faith comes from what you put your faith in or the "foundation" your faith is placed on, not how much faith you have. For example, I can be looking out over a frozen po...
